DeAnna chooses Jesse; Wedding planned next May in Bahamas
BY AMY LOTT
For DeAnna Pappas, fairy tale endings do come true.
During the season finale of ABC's reality dating TV series "The Bachelorette" Monday night, it was revealed that the 26-year-old star -- a Newnan real estate agent -- had accepted a marriage proposal from professional snowboarder Jesse Csincsak, 26, at the show's conclusion.
Following the last episode, the couple appeared together for the first time in front of a studio audience on the "After the Final Rose" special with host Chris Harrison to announce they plan to marry in the Bahamas May 9, 2009. Harrison surprised Pappas and Csincsak with an all-expenses-paid honeymoon in Greece on behalf of ABC.
In the preceding show installment, Pappas took both Csincsak, of Colo., and rival suitor Jason Mesnick -- a 31-year-old account executive and single father from the Seattle, Wash., area -- to meet her family in Newnan, where each man asked for her father's permission to propose.
To introduce Pappas' hometown segment, shots of various Newnan landmarks flashed across the screen. Program viewers -- numbering 7.525 million on June 23, according to Nielsen Media Research ratings -- could see downtown's Court Square, the front of The Redneck Gourmet restaurant and a sign welcoming visitors to "The City of Homes." Nielsen has ranked the show in the top 10 most-watched broadcast television programs.
After visiting Newnan, Pappas and the potential grooms returned to the Bahamas for final dates. Ending on an exciting note, she spent time with Csincsak on a private island and took Mesnick scuba diving with sharks. As both men later prepared for possible engagement, Pappas revealed in voice over that she had made her decision.
On a flower-bedecked, beach-side platform arranged for the final elimination, Pappas stopped Mesnick mid-knee before he could continue with his proposal. "No, I can't," she said. "I know my life with you would be perfect, and I could always depend on you. But even though I am falling in love with you, I am in love with someone else."
When Csincsak arrived, he said, "I want to spend forever with you. I truly believe that you are my soulmate." On bended knee, he then asked, "DeAnna Marie Pappas, will you spend forever with me?"
Pappas happily agreed and presented him with the final rose. "I have waited forever for that rose," he said.
"I love you," she said. "I've waited so long to say that... I can't believe I'm going to marry the guy with the pink shoelaces!"
